Sedgefield Community College - Jun 25
Our Year 9 STEM Ducati Team had the fantastic opportunity to visit Middlesbrough College last night after a long day at school. The staff were incredibly supportive and provided valuable insights into the different materials used in constructing a superbike. They explored Ducati’s signature trellis frame, discussed the properties of ferrous and non‑ferrous metals, and introduced students to materials such as anodised titanium. They also encouraged the team to consider how these materials could be adapted to enhance their competition bike design.
Students examined the importance of centre of gravity and its impact on bike performance. They were also introduced to materials including Kevlar, lead, titanium, carbon fibre and stainless steel, alongside the manufacturing processes involved. The boys made extensive notes to bring back to SCC HQ as they refine their final designs.
In addition, last week the team made contact with Adam Burnicle bespoke designer for Bentley cars, and explored aspects of design collaboration, considering the shared innovation seen between Bentley and Ducati.
